Mid-Ulster Council recognition achievements of St. Patrick’s College, Dungannon

Recently, staff and pupils from St. Patrick’s College Dungannon were invited for a civic reception to the Mid-Ulster Council Offices to celebrate the achievement of being awarded Level 2 status as a Rights Respecting School by UNICEF.

The Chairperson of Mid-Ulster Council, Linda Dillon, welcomed the guests and spoke of how St. Patrick’s College was an important part of the local community. Representatives from UNICEF included Vivien Kelly who spoke to the audience about the significance of implementing a ‘Rights Respecting’ culture within a school environment, and how St. Patrick’s had accomplished this.

The second reason for the civic reception last Friday was the official launch of the Enlighten Hope series of books by the school's Young Enterprise students. These post-16 students were so inspired by the story of Eva Tomney, (the niece of our Head of Business Studies Tracy Hughes), that they wrote, illustrated and published three adventure stories based on her experiences.

The books are a superb tribute to Eva’s life story and are an important resource for children and families who find themselves facing the challenges associated with cancer. Guest speakers included Gillian Creevy, Chief Executive from the Cancer Fund for Children and Brian McGilloway, New York Times bestselling author.

Copies of the book can be purchased from the school and would be a valuable addition to any school library, and a helpful resource to support any school's pastoral programme.

Further information on the books can be accessed through the Enlighten Hope video on the school's website

The booksa re also available by contacting Cathal Coyle PRO for St Patrick's at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
