The schools from around the Armagh Diocese recently gathered in St John the Baptist Church Portadown to celebrate the launch of Catholic Schools Week.
Pupils travelled from as far as Dundalk and Carrickmore to take part in this liturgy that was celebrated by Archbishop Eamon Martin. The theme of the celebration was “Care for the Earth” and the need for people today to uphold the “5 Rs”- reduce, reuse, recycle, respect and reflect. The liturgy consisted of drama, readings and reflections. The Archbishop also blessed the Eco Award Flags that the many different schools had achieved. Pupils from both primary and post primary participated in the service. The beautiful music was provided by the St. John the Baptist’s Community Choir under the direction of Mr. Dominic Douglas of St. John the Baptist’s College.
