St. Oliver Plunkett Primary School, Belfast named Apple Distinguished School


St. Oliver Plunkett Primary School, Belfast is pleased to announce that it has been recognised as an Apple Distinguished School, the first primary school in Ireland to receive such an accolade.

This recognizes its vision; that iPad is seamlessly integrated into the teaching and learning of the children in a manner which engages, encourages, excites and embeds a lifelong love of learning. iPad has also played a hugely significant role in improving communication with parents, not only at a secretarial level but importantly as true partners in the learning journey of the children.

The Apple Distinguished School designation is reserved for programs that meet the criteria for innovation, leadership, and educational excellence, and demonstrate a clear vision of exemplary learning environments.

Principal, Paddy McCabe said, " iPad has seen the ethereal vision of the school become a corporeal reality, its impact and influence can be seen in every classroom, breakout area and corridor, indeed in every aspect of our school. The creativity of every class teacher can be seen in how iPad is used as an enrichment tool in the teaching and learning process. I am delighted that parents, pupils and staff received this global recognition from Apple.

"The selection of St. Oliver Plunkett Primary School as an Apple Distinguished School highlights our success as an innovative and compelling learning environment that engages students and provides tangible evidence of academic accomplishment.

"Technological immersion is a reality in which our children exist. It is our challenge to ensure that we too as educators are as immersed as our children. iPad, meshed with the plethora of apps available on the App Store and in the hands of willing, creative teachers who seem themselves as learners, and take every training opportunity available to them ensures that we meet that challenge on a daily basis. iPad plays its part in ensuring that our children are developing a mindset that will allow them to take their place in an unknown future. It has allowed them to develop as flexible, computational thinkers. We see it in the creative use of technology in every lesson in the school curriculum in a way that ensures that their experiences are richer, deeper and more meaningful to them."
