On Friday 24th May St Ciaran’s College Ballygawley were delighted to be awarded ‘Post Primary School of the year’ at the Irish News Awards held at Wellington Park Hotel Belfast.
The GAA provision in St Ciaran’s College’s is true to our school motto ‘Including everyone, inspiring all to succeed’. The staff are committed to furthering the pupils’ experience of Gaelic games by providing coaching at lunchtime, afterschool and during school holidays. As a school we embrace strong community links, facilitating a vibrant primary schools links programme which provides coaching and competitive games, in the form of our annual ‘Canavan Cup’ for our partner primaries.
The St Ciaran’s family identity reaches out to 12 GAA clubs across 2 counties. All of our pupils enjoy a broad range of GAA activities involving coaching, refereeing and participation in the codes of handball, hurling, camogie and Gaelic football. The sporting ethos of St Ciaran’s reflects modern Irish community values of diversity and inclusivity, wherein we have a spectrum of nationalities, all participating in our activities. In addition to active participation in our games, we foster a spirit of involvement, enabling our students to acquire skills in the areas of coaching, administration and officiating. In St Ciaran’s we ensure that all our pupils wear the school jersey and as such, we operate a development squad’s structure believing that from ‘small acorns tall oak trees grow’.
