St Joseph's scoops Northern Ireland's first National Nurturing School Award

St Joseph’s Primary School, Slate Street, Belfast were presented with a national nurture award for the entire school. This is the first time this accolade has been awarded in Northern Ireland.

St Joseph’s picked up the prestigious prize for demonstrating exemplary practice in embedding a nurturing culture throughout the entire school.

Speaking at the Award Ceremony, Principal of St Joseph’s, Mairéad Weir said: “We are thrilled to be the first school in Northern Ireland to receive the ‘National Nurturing School Award’. We have seen how a nurturing education is the great equalizer, helping children blossom and grow into the people they are meant to be.  It provides us all with the knowledge, skills and personal resources to overcome the everyday challenges in life.” 

The National Nurturing School Award is awarded to schools who successfully complete the National Nurturing Schools Programme, a two-year course to develop and embed a nurturing culture throughout the school. St Joseph’s is the first school in Northern Ireland to complete the Programme and to receive the Award.

It's a double win for St Mary's

St Mary’s Primary School, Divis Street, Belfast was delighted to win two Kellogg’s Breakfast Club of the Year awards. As well as winning the Northern Ireland Breakfast Club of the Year, St Mary’s  which is located close to Belfast city centre, was named ‘Grand Prize Winner’ – Best Breakfast Club UK.  The substantial prize money will be used by the school to develop the breakfast club facilities and provide additional sport and wellbeing programmes. 

This is St Mary’s second time picking up a Kellogg’s Award, in 2016 they won the award for ‘Promoting a Healthy Lifestyle’.

Press Release - CCMS appoints new Chair of Council

The Council for Catholic Maintained Schools is pleased to confirm that the Bishop of Derry, Most Rev Donal McKeown DD, has taken up the position of Council Chair with effect from 11 April 2018.

Bishop McKeown has been a Member of Council since 2001. The Council of CCMS is due for reconstitution in November 2019.

Multi-Cultural Day celebrated at St John the Baptist College

St John the Baptist’s College, Portadown recently hosted a Multi-Cultural Day of Celebration.  This fun-filled day celebrated the cultural diversity in its community.  The hugely successful event was attended by its many feeder primary schools, community members, community organisations and dignitaries.  The many cultures featured were show-cased through an eclectic mix of food, music, dance and art & craft.

Congratulations to St John the Baptist College on their third Green Flag award

St John the Baptist’s College, Portadown have been awarded their prestigious 3rd Green flag Award!  Awarded by Eco Schools for more than 20 years, children at St John the Baptist’s College have become empowered to drive change and improve their environmental awareness through their involvement and practices at the school’s Eco Club.
