Appointment of members to the Council for Catholic Maintained Schools (CCMS) and its Diocesan Education Committees (DECs).
The Department of Education (DE) has launched a public appointments competition to appoint four members to the CCMS Council along with four members to the Derry DEC and two members to each of the Armagh and Down and Connor DECs.
CCMS is a DE sponsored non-departmental public body, and is responsible for developing and promoting, in conjunction with the Trustees of Catholic maintained schools, quality education within the Catholic maintained sector. CCMS DECs are committees of CCMS which have responsibility for the Catholic maintained school sector. DECs provide advice to the CCMS Council regarding its policies and implementation and exercise many of the Council’s operational and representational responsibilities. The member’s role is to contribute to the development of the CCMS’s strategy; ensuring that it is consistent with the Minister’s priorities and DE aims and objectives; to challenge and work for consensus in the decision making processes of the Council; and contribute to the work associated with the discharge of CCMS’s statutory functions.
The appointments are for up to four years, with the first term of appointment ending in November 2024 - to align with the appointment term of current members.
The posts are not remunerated; however members may claim travel and other expenses necessarily incurred while carrying out their CCMS/DEC duties.
Further details on the selection criteria, the role responsibilities and time commitment are set out in the Information Booklet which is part of the application pack.
